Tiaki Promise- to care for people and place.
The Tiaki Promise is a commitment to care for Aotearoa, for now and for future generations. By following the Tiaki Promise, we are making a commitment to act as a guardian, protecting and preserving our home.
At Sweet Axe we are committed to upholding & promoting the values of Tiaki and prioritizing sustainability, community, and social responsibility. We believe that as a business, we have a responsibility to reduce our impact on the environment and the local community, while also promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
We actively work to reduce waste by upcycling used target wood and actively avoid the use of plastic. We prioritize sustainable products and sell organic juices and sodas to promote a healthier lifestyle. We also prioritize people and community by fostering a welcoming and inclusive space for all. We are committed to promoting allyship and anti-discrimination, and actively work to create a safe and welcoming environment for all of our customers and staff.
We are proud to contribute to the wellness and safety of our community and the planet by upholding the values of Tiaki, while also prioritizing our values of community, people, allyship, and anti-discrimination. We believe that every small action counts, and we are committed to doing our part to make change.

Trees That Count
We love trees! They transform the environment, make us feel good and they're super important to our business! The impact of forrestry industries on Aotearoa's native forrest has been devastating, and has come at the cost of Aotearoa's incredible native trees, whenua & wildlife.
We go to lengths to make every target board last longer- by keeping boards moist, flipping them, re-using them for cover boards and upcycling boards to form parts of our venue furniture we make every board count! Once we've gotten the most use out of a board, we offer it to the community for free. People use our untreated pine to heat their homes, in their gardens for mulch or planter boxes.
Timber use is still an unavoidable part of our business. We use approximately 1 meter for every 15-20 customers. To counter our impact on native trees, we give our customers the option to donate to Trees That Count during the booking process. We'll match every dollar committed by our wonderful customers to support this awesome charity.
Trees That Count work with New Zealanders to plant millions more native trees. They're an environmental charity who raise funding for native trees and co-ordinate a community of over 27,000 planters.
Trees That Counts was recently selected for a Sustainable Business Network "Regenerating Nature" award for taking a leadership role in regenerating Aotearoa’s nature, and for the movement’s address of both the global climate change and biodiversity crises through upscaling native tree planting.

Happy People
Took my team to Sweet Axe as part of a Christmas planning day - was well worth the time and money. Our axe-pert Monty was a righteous dude and gave us all great coaching and instruction, within a safe and controlled environment. Our group was of varied ability, yet everyone agreed it was a wicked afternoon. Would definitely recommend to anyone, absolutely worth a go! Chur! |
